Zumarraga, Samar – 25 teachers who will man the 25 Zumarraga Day Care Centers of the island-municipality will get a stipend hike as Christmas gift from Mayor Nelip Figueroa.
The allowance increase was announced during the Christmas get-together of the Zumarraga Local Government Unit (LGU) on 16 December 2016.
Figueroa, who earned a fresh term after winning the 2016 elections, said that the P1,500 monthly allocation for the teachers will now be raised to P2,000 a month. “This is not much but this will help somehow in the daily sustenance of our teachers,” she said.
The teachers were sworn in to serve their duties following the renewal of their contract to serve for the whole year of 2017.
The teachers will be dispatched to the 25 barangays of the municipality. “We need to upgrade our support to our (Day Care) teachers as they are sacrificing so much to help in raising the children in our barangays,” the mayor added.
Most of the villages in the town can only be reached through motor banca.
Meanwhile, a newly built building has been turned-over to its users as part of the LGU’s infrastructure upgrading. The structure will house the offices of the Municipal Agriculture, Assessor and Local Planning and Development Coordinator.
In her speech, the mayor said that she is expecting more development in the coming year as long as the people of her town will be united setting aside political differences.
The mayor is the wife of former Congressman Catalino Figueroa of the Samar’s 2nd District. (Bryan M. Azura)
