“We would like to announce to the world that Eastern Visayas is ready as ICT destination,” Department of Science and Technology Eastern Visayas Regional Director Edgardo Esperancilla said.
According to RD Esperanecilla in a media conference, some 28 ICT organizations throughout the country will join in the national ICT summit, which is considered as the biggest gathering of information and communication technology champions of the industry on November 10-11, 2016 at Palo, Leyte and Tacloban City.
Tacloban City was chosen to host the summit by the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines in a way to help Region 8 to recover from the devastation of Super typhoon Yolanda three years ago, he said.
Before the onset of Yolanda, Tacloban City used to have 4,000 seats in the BPO industry, however, some of the young talents went to Cebu after the calamity, Esperancilla said. He noted that today Cebu City is swelling with 130,000 seats while Iloilo gets 20,000 seats, as well.
He is confident that there are enough talents that would attract more ICT companies to invest in the region.
That DOST emphasized that this is the first for Leyte and Tacloban City to host such important event and an opportunity to showcase what the province can offer and hope to boost the confidence of future investors to consider the whole region for their next ventures, it was learned.
The summit aims to actively generate investments to the information and communication industry most particularly in the countryside.
The organizers of the summit expects some 500 participants coming from the local government units, state universities and colleges, industry officials, among others, It will be an opportunity to learn about ICT as a development tool in their field of works, he added. (PIA 8)
