Tacloban City – Philippine National Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) Regional Director Chief Superintendent Elmer Beltejar and 200 police officers were found to be negative from drug substance after undergoing drug testing at the regional office in Camp Kangleon, Campetic, Palo, Leyte.
The testing was conducted after Beltejar assumed command of PNP Region 8 in collusion with the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte and PNP Chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa to stamp out illegal drugs and criminality in the whole country.
PNP so far placed the number of police officers who tested positive for illegal drugs at 11 in its series of nationwide drug tests.
The samples will be put into a confirmatory test. Once confirmed, the police officials will be charged and tried.
PRO 8 meanwhile said that it will continue to conduct surprise drug tests on all its personnel all throughout the region.
Meanwhile, Project Double Barrel has already resulted in the voluntary surrender of 6,896 narcotics personalities in the region. (Bryan Azura)
